What's the difference between a cream and a lotion? Water. Creams are heavier than lotions, so they contain more oils as a percentage of total weight than lotions and, therefore, are more moisturizing, but less oily than body butters, which contain no water. As a general rule of thumb, we like to use creams and body butters in fall/winter as the air gets drier and your skin needs more moisturizing or if you have dry skin.
